Visit Maldives Year 2027: What the New National Campaign Means for Travellers
The countdown has begun. The Maldives has launched Visit Maldives Year 2027, a year-long national campaign inviting the world to the islands, and it is a lovely moment for anyone who already holds the atolls close to their heart.
Here is what has been announced so far, and what it could mean for your next trip.
How it began
The campaign was first announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in his Presidential Address to Parliament, PSM reports.
It was then officially launched on 4 October 2026, at the National Tourism Day ceremony, by Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen and MATI Chairperson Hussain Afeef. The campaign's official logo, song and branding were unveiled at the same event.
New tourism awards, including sustainability
Alongside the campaign, four new categories have been added to the 2027 Maldives Tourism Awards: human resource building, sustainability, visitor experience and outstanding individuals, according to PSM. Applications are expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.
It is encouraging to see sustainability and visitor experience recognised in their own right. Both matter to the people who live and work on the islands, and to the travellers who visit them.
New places to stay
The campaign is already shaping the islands' plans. The Ministry of Tourism has linked new resort openings, such as Nilaa Coral Island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, to its preparations for Visit Maldives Year 2027, MV+ reports.
Why 2027 is a year to come
A national campaign like this is a celebration of the whole country, not only its resorts. The Maldives is also its local islands, its guesthouses, its fishing villages and the people who welcome visitors every day.
If you are thinking about a 2027 trip, a few ideas:
Mix your stays. Pair a few nights at a resort with time at a local-island guesthouse to see more of Maldivian life.
Plan early. A year of national promotion may draw more visitors, so booking ahead gives you more choice.
Travel gently. Respect local customs, care for the reef, and support local businesses where you can.
Wear your Maldives pride
